Card Won't Mount on an Android Phone SD

Many Android devices have cameras, video recorders, MP3 players, e-book readers and expandable applications. All of this functionality can use up your handset’s available storage quickly, so the majority of Android devices have the ability to save files and apps to a removable storage card, known as a SD card. If the SD card won’t mount to your device, several problems may have occurred.

If your Android cannot read your SD card, the problem could stem from the SC card itself, and not your handset. SD cards, while stable, can have formatting or hardware issues that will prevent a handset from reading the information stored on the card. Test your SD card in another handset, or use a converter to plug your SD card into a computer. If you are unable to locate the SD card using another handset or a computer, the SD card is faulty and will need replaced.
You must install your SD correctly into your handset to view or save files. Remove and reinstall the SD to make sure you have it correctly installed. Remove the back cover on your handset and locate the SD slot. Gently grasp the SD card and pull it away from the phone. Lift the metal cover on the SD slot and slide the SD card back in. If installed correctly, the SD card will fit under the metal cover, securely in the slot. If the SD card sticks out, or does not snap into place, trying turning the SD card over to the other side and re-inserting.
An issue with the operating system could prevent your handset from reading the SD card. Android devices have a setting that allows you to mount or unmount a SD card, which will format the card for use on your handset. You must have the correct removable storage settings in place for the Android to view and save to the card. Go the settings menu on your device. Locate the “Unmount SD card” option and tap to unmounts your SD card. After the handset finishes unmounting your SD card, tap the option to “Mount SD card.” This may correct any software issues.
Use caution when working with your SD card. Frequently moving the card, or altering the settings on your handset may cause the card to become unreadable. Before working with your SD card, use a converter to move your stored files on to your computer or an external drive device. Storing your files in a separate location will keep them safe should something happen to your SD card.
