Can You Sync an Android Phone to a Mac?

You can sync your Android phone with a Mac in a number of ways. Unlike the Apple iPhone, Android smartphones lack dedicated software for syncing data including contacts, calendars, music, video and other files between the phone and a computer. To fill the void, third-party developers have released software for Mac computers designed to provide phone-to-computer sync functionality. These programs enable you to sync almost anything from your Mac to the applicable app on your Android so that you always have your data with you.

The Android platform is developed by Google. As such, Android-powered smartphones feature deep integration with Google services like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and more. Although not a software sync solution, you can link most of your Mac applications with Google services to enable wireless sync of contacts, calendars and other data between your Android phone and Mac computer. The account options tab found in the Settings window for Mail, iCal and the Mac address book will allow you to sync local data to their respective Google services, making that data available on your phone.
The Missing Sync by Mark/Space is a comprehensive Android sync application for Mac computers that costs $40 as of October 2011. The software can sync anything on your Mac computer to an Android phone over USB or wirelessly. To configure the program, you simply set up sync paths between Mac applications and your Android. For instance, you can set iCal events to sync to your Android calendar or iTunes playlists to sync to the music app on your Android.
Like The Missing Sync, SyncMate by Eltima Software provides you with a comprehensive sync application that can be used to connect your contacts, calendar, music, videos and photos with your Android device. The free version of the software allows you to sync Mac contacts and calendars, while the full version, which costs $40 as of October 2011, allows you to sync folders, music, photos and videos as well.
If you only want to sync your iTunes music, podcasts and videos with an Android device, then the DoubleTwist is the application you're looking for. Paired with the DoubleTwist Android app, you can set your Android device to sync multimedia content from your iTunes library. The software can also sync photos from iPhoto to your Android device. For added convenience, the DoubleTwist AirSync app, which costs $5 in the Android Market as of October 2011, enables you to sync iTunes content to your Android phone wirelessly.
