The Motorola Droid X has an HDMI slot at the bottom of the smartphone device for an HDMI cable to connect from the device to an HDTV television, monitor or projector. An HDMI cable can transmit uncompressed digital data from the Motorola Droid X to a receiver, such as a television. HDMI is different than analog cable: coaxial cables, composite videos, S-Video and VGA. HDMI only connects digital audio and video sources to other digital audio and video sources. HDMI cables for the Motorola Droid X and other devices can be purchased at electronic stores.
To connect the Motorola Droid X with an HD device, plug one end of the HDMI cable into the slot on the Droid, located below the USB charging port. Locate the HDMI input on the receiving device, such as a television, projector or monitor. Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the input. Turn on the TV monitor and locate the settings menu. Choose the HD signal as the input on the settings menu. After viewing a video or photo on the Motorola Droid X, tap the HDMI icon on the screen. The Motorola Droid connects with the HD device and the Droid is now a control pad for the device.
Once the Motorola Droid X has been connected with the HDMI cable, then video and photo content can be viewed on the receiving device. Use the video controls of "Exit," "Play/Pause" and "Back/Forward" with the HD device. There are controls for the Photo Slideshow and Video controls. This separate keypad controls the device. For the Slideshow feature, videos do not play. The HD content will only play after the HDMI icon has been pressed on the Motorola Droid X.
