Syncing an Android Phone on a Mac

 All setup is performed on the Mac, as the Android syncs with Google automatically. Although Android phones don't have a native option to synchronize directly with Mac computers, you can still sync the two devices by using the free Google account required by your Android phone as an intermediary. Android handsets automatically sync with your Google account, and most Mac software can be set to sync up with the same account as the Android phone. The Google account will then ensure that native apps on both devices are kept up to date with the same data for functions such as email, calendars and address books.

Launch the Address Book application on your Mac by clicking its icon on the desktop.

Click the "Accounts" button in the menu at the top of the screen. Check the "On My Mac Local" box if it isn't already checked.

Check the "Synchronize with Google," box and enter your Google account user name and password in the relevant boxes. Click the "Sync" button, and your Mac's Address Book app is synced with your Google account -- and therefore your Android phone's Contacts app.

Launch the Mail app on your Mac by clicking its icon on the desktop.

Click the "Preferences" button followed by "Accounts" in the menu at the top of the screen.

Click the "+" button to add a new account. Enter your Google account's email address in the "Email" and "Username" fields, and your password in the "Password" field. Click the "Add" button, and the Mail app will automatically sync with the Gmail account being used by your Android phone.

Launch the iCal application on your Mac by clicking its icon on the desktop.

Click the "Accounts" button at the top of the screen, followed by the "+" button to add a new account.

Enter the user name and password of your Google account in the relevant boxes, check the "Automatic" box and click the "Add" button. Your Mac's calendar is automatically synced to your online Google calendar and the Calendar app on your Android phone.
You can sync multiple computers and Android phones to the same Google account to sync your data across all devices.
As well as making changes to your data on the Android phone or Mac, you can access your Google account from any computer to add, remove or edit your data. Any changes will then be synced to your Mac and Android phone.
