T9 Function for a Motorola RAZR

T9 can be initially difficult to understand. The Motorola Razr line of phones are base-line phones that allow you to make calls, have moderate mobile-web capabilities and send text and multimedia messages. The Razr has two modes of text-input: tap and iTAP, formerly referred to as “T9.” The iTAP mode allows you to enter text messages more quickly than the tap method.

The “Envelope” button will open the text messaging and email menu. To create a text message, press the “Envelope” button, select “Create Message,” and choose the “New Short Msg” option.
The Motorola Razr allows you to change between the tap and iTAP modes when composing a text message. Press the “#” button to switch between entry modes. The text entry icon appears in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. Pressing the “#” button will cycle between your primary, secondary, numeric and symbol text entry modes. Press the “-“button and select the “Entry Setup” option to declare iTAP or tap as your primary or secondary entry modes.
Tap mode is the traditional input method for text messaging. In tap mode, you will press the number key on your Razr’s keypad multiple times to scroll through the letters associated with each number key. Entering text using tap mode requires that you enter each individual letter of each word. Spelling the word “Dog” in tap mode would require that you press “3,” “6,” “6,” “6” and “4” because the letter “D” is the first letter on the “3” button, the letter “O” is the third letter associated with the “6” button and the letter “G” is the first letter on the “4” button.
The iTAP mode simplifies the way in which you enter text by only requiring you to press each number-key once for the desired letter. iTAP utilizes T9 technology. which actively predicts words as you press number-keys. To spell “Dog” using iTAP you will press the “3,” “6” and “4” buttons once. The iTAP function will pull up a list of words using all of the possible combinations of the letters associated with the number-keys that you entered. You can select the appropriate word from the list, using the “Up” and “Down” cursor keys. The T9 function in iTAP will learn the words you commonly text and add them to your phone’s memory.
