Will Mobile Firefox Work on a Blackberry Phone?

Mobile Firefox is a Web browser designed for use on mobile phones and tablet computers. At the time of publication, Mobile Firefox is compatible with a variety of smartphones and tablets from companies like Samsung, Apple, Motorola and HTC, but is not supported by BlackBerry devices. You BlackBerry will, however, support several other browsers.

Developed by Bitstream Inc., the Bolt mobile Web browser is designed for use on BlackBerry devices and can be downloaded directly from the company’s website to your BlackBerry. Bolt 2.5, the most recent version of the application at the time of publication, is designed to handle all audio and video content contained on the Internet. Bolt integrates with BlackBerrys’ built-in GPS application to transmit the device’s longitude and latitude coordinates to location enabled websites, such as Google Maps. Bolt is also able to playback videos from a variety of websites, including YouTube and Facebook.
The Opera Mini 6.1 browser, developed by Opera Software, is compatible with BlackBerry devices and is also available from the company’s website. Opera Mini provides an assortment of Web-related features, including full HTML Web access, tabular browsing and full-page overview and zoom. The browser also offers many of the features offered by personal computer browsers, such as cookie support, adjustable text size, full screen capability and the ability to save Web pages for offline viewing. Opera Mini uses server compression technology, which compresses Internet content before displaying it on your BlackBerry.
You can always turn to BlackBerry when it comes to finding software you can use on your BlackBerry device, and Web browsers are no exception. Your BlackBerry probably came with BlackBerry Browser installed, but you’ll only be able to enjoy the latest features offered by the company’s browser if you have the latest version, which is always available from the BlackBerry App World. BlackBerry Browser is a full Internet application, which means it displays full websites and does not compress the content before displaying it on your device.
Because BlackBerry phones are so widely used, more software developers are producing applications that are compatible with them due to popular demand. This means that just because a certain browser, such as Firefox Mobile, is not available for BlackBerry right now does not mean they will never be available. Periodically check popular browser manufacturers’ websites, such as Microsoft and Skyfire, for possible updates about BlackBerry availability. Although your BlackBerry will not support Mobile Firefox, it will support Bolt and Opera Mini, both of which were listed among the best mobile Web browsers by “PC Magazine” in 2010.
